Aiming for gold! India’s boxing contingent marches towards the Paris 2024 Olympics with a powerful stance, particularly for the women’s team. Already securing all four quota places, they stand poised for an exceptional showing in the French capital.

Dominant dames: Leading the charge are Nikhat Zareen (50kg), Manju Rani (57kg), Parveen Hooda (60kg), and Lovlina Borgohain (75kg). These champions, crowned at the 2023 Asian Games, form the backbone of India’s women’s boxing ambitions.

Men face a jab: The men’s team, however, faces a stiffer challenge. They will need to punch their tickets to Paris at the upcoming World Qualification Tournament in Bangkok, Thailand, scheduled for May 23rd to June 3rd, 2024.

Promising pugilists: Keep your eyes peeled for Deepak Bhoria (51kg), Nishant Dev (71kg), and Mohammad Hussamuddin (57kg). These rising stars aim to secure their place among the Olympic elite. Veteran Vikas Krishan, Tokyo 2020 alum, also joins the fray in the newly introduced 80kg category.

Global gauntlet: However, the path to victory won’t be a walk in the park. The Indian boxers face tough competition from international contenders, including athletes from Russia and Belarus whose participation in the qualifiers is still uncertain.

Undeterred by the odds: Despite the challenges, both the men’s and women’s teams remain steadfast in their pursuit of Olympic glory. With relentless training and unwavering dedication, they aim to knock out their opponents and cement their position in boxing history.
