Aishwary Pratap Singh Tomar Breaks World Record, Leads India’s Paris Olympics Qualification Race at National Shooting Trials

Aishwary Pratap Singh Tomar made headlines at the National Shooting Trials in Bhopal by clinching victory in the men’s 50m rifle 3 positions event with a remarkable score of 466.4. This incredible feat not only secured his win but also surpassed the existing world record set by Czech shooter Jiri Privratsky.

Tomar’s exceptional performance solidifies his position as one of India’s most promising shooters, building on his success at the 2022 Asian Games where he earned two gold medals, one silver, and one bronze. Moreover, his recent triumphs place him at the forefront of the NRAI’s Qualification Ranking for the Olympic Games (QROG) list in the 50m rifle 3 positions category.

With his eye-catching displays, Tomar has positioned himself as a strong contender to represent India at the Paris Olympic Games 2024. His achievements pave the way for India to potentially secure maximum quota spots in shooting events, with each country allowed a maximum of two shooters per individual event.

In addition to Tomar, other notable contenders vying for a spot in the men’s 50m rifle 3 positions event at the Paris Olympics include Swapnil Suresh Kusale, Akhil Sheoran, Chain Singh, Nishan Budha, Niraj Kumar, and Adriyan Karmakar.

The National Shooting Trials, overseen by the National Rifle Association of India (NRAI), serve as a crucial platform for identifying top talent. The trials, held at the MP State Shooting Academy ranges, witnessed Niraj Kumar securing the second position, followed by Tomar’s teammate Goldie Gurjar in third place.

India’s impressive performance in shooting has set the stage for a formidable presence at the Paris Olympics, with the country already securing 19 out of 24 possible quotas. This represents a significant increase from the previous high of 15 quotas obtained at the Tokyo Olympics.

Shooting enthusiasts eagerly anticipate the events at the National Shooting Center, Chateauroux, scheduled to take place from July 27 to August 5, 2024. The 50m Rifle 3 Positions event, in particular, challenges shooters to display their prowess across kneeling, prone, and standing positions within a specified time frame.
